Questions, answered
Is the WhatsApp link generator really free?+
Yes. Creating wa.me links and QR codes is free and needs no account. A free account adds 5 branded short links with click analytics.
Do I need the WhatsApp Business API?+
No. WALink links use WhatsApp's standard click-to-chat, which works with the regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business apps. The optional ChatGrow integration is only for sending automated, approved messages.
What happens to my printed QR code if my number changes?+
If the QR points to a WALink short link, just edit the destination number in your dashboard. The QR and the link stay the same, so nothing needs reprinting.
Does a click mean a customer messaged me?+
No — and we never pretend it does. A click means someone opened your link. Whether they sent a message happens inside WhatsApp, which we can't see. We report clicks honestly, and only show delivered messages when an integration confirms them.
What data do you collect about people who click?+
Only coarse, privacy-friendly information: time, device type, browser family, country, referring website and campaign tags. We never store IP addresses or the visitor's phone number.
Can I self-host WALink?+
Yes. WALink is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence and runs anywhere Node.js and MySQL run.
